A Langham Love Story

Fortified by brunch in bed, they are ready fOur Langham lovers tumble out of bed long after most Londoners are at their desks. Fortified by brunch in bed, they are ready for a day revelling in the city’s passionate embrace.
A brief saunter along Oxford Street to New Bond Street gets the lovers straight to the heart of the matter. The displays in Cartier, Harry Winston, Asprey, Boucheron, Lalique and Swarovski twinkle like our lovers’ starry eyes as they try on glittering trinkets and tokens. The lure of the colourful designs in Brit-jeweller Boodles finally gets the better of them as they sip champagne. They plump for a Castaway cocktail ring – inspired by the tropical blooms on a paradise island, and deliciously resplendent with its mandarin garnet, pink tourmaline and lemon beryl stones.
Hand-in-hand they stroll to Conduit Street, where Rigby & Peller sells tissue-wrapped underwear to royals and romantically minded gentlemen, and Vivienne Westwood weaves her magic corsetry around ladies’ curves.
Crossing Regent Street they skip past Liberty on Great Marlborough Street, where fashionable florist Paula Pryke puts together a posy for our loved-up pair. From here, it’s a short walk down Carnaby Street to Broadwick Street where Yauatcha serves afternoon tea, with cakes displayed in a glass case and decorated with petals, pillows of cream and ornate chocolate follies.
A rickshaw ride around the atmospheric streets of Soho and down Whitehall gives the twosome time to dawdle as they make their way to Westminster Bridge, where Romantic poet Wordsworth wrote his love poem to London. Minutes later, our Langham lovers are gazing out over the cityscape from the privacy of their very own capsule on the London Eye. It’s a 30-minute flight, complete with champagne, Charbonnel et Walker chocolates and priority boarding. Then to the Dali Universe in County Hall, where, amongst Salvador Dalí’s sexy surreal work, resides Mae West’s luscious pout of a sofa. Arm-in-arm they head along the South Bank towards Waterloo Bridge where they arrive in time for sunset. To their left, the Houses of Parliament, to their right St Paul’s Cathedral, and in the middle, each other, bathed in twilight’s glow.
‘London by night is a wonderful sight,’ croons Frank Sinatra tenderly as our lovers settle back for a cab ride past the twinkling city lights to Andrew Edmunds in Soho. Regularly voted London’s most romantic restaurant, the intimate dining room tells of decades of trysts and foreplay conducted over plates of shared desserts. A saunter along Carnaby Street and back up Regent Street is where we shall leave our loving couple, newly infatuated with each other and this moonlit city, kissing on their way into The Langham’s loving arms …
